Embrace The Role

I looked on childrearing not only as a work of love and duty but as a profession that was fully interesting and challenging as any honourable profession in the world and one that demanded the best that I could bring to it. -- Rose Kennedy

Are you ready? This is the most exhausting and rewarding thing you will ever do. Goals are pursued with the end in mind. You train to run a marathon or acquire a new skill, you study to complete a degree, you cook to enjoy a meal. What is the payoff, the goal, the purpose in parenting?

The goal of parenting is to prepare a life to exist on its own. I understand that when you are looking into the sweet, dear (sleeping) face, the last thing on your mind is sending that little one out into the world to exist on its own. Human babies are one of the most dependent on their parents. They need to be nurtured, encouraged and loved yes but as a parent, you need to keep the goal in mind. It will keep you focused on the first law of survival - self preservation.

Over the course of this blog, I will share with you the adventures of raising 3 men and the joy in quilting parenting advice along the way.
